A Link Between Diet and Colon Cancer Deaths?

Everyone knows a healthy diet can increase your overall fitness, but do the foods you eat have any affect on your chance of surviving a serious disease like colon cancer?

That answer is yes, according to a study published in The Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

The study found that patients treated with Stage 3 colon cancer who consumed the most carbohydrates and foods with high glycemic loads had an 80 percent greater chance of dying or having a cancer recurrence that those with lower blood sugar levels.

Researchers believe insulin may play a critical role in colon cancer recurrence by fueling the growth of cancer cells and preventing cell death in cancer cells that have spread, according to the study.

"It's not simply that all carbs are bad or that you should avoid all sugar," said Dr. Jeffrey A. Meyerhardt, lead author of the study. "I think people should focus on a well-balanced diet." Read the complete details here:

Can Foods Affect Colon Cancer Survival?

"Diets rich in whole grains and short on sugar provide an incredible benefit for those with colon cancer," said Steve Crandall, a top-rated attorney throughout Ohio and Kentucky. "This association should prompt many who don't have cancer to eat this way as well. Such a diet will lead to weight loss and all the health benefits of a healthy lifestyle."
