Two former nursing home workers are in jail after being caught on camera abusing an elderly patient whose daughter decided to take actions into her own hands, according to NBC News.
Regina Battles, 20, and Irene Rodriguez, 22, formerly of Arbors at Buck Run in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are charged with neglect of a care dependent person, reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment after video footage showed them "dumping" a resident on a bed and "manhandling" the patient.
This ongoing abuse, which also included singing and yelling directly into the resident's face, happened repeatedly from October 16 to November 13, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
The abuse was discovered by the patient's daughter who installed hidden cameras in her wheel-chair bound mother's room after becoming suspicious of the treatment she was receiving. This case has led the DPW to revoke the facility's license, citing "gross incompetence, negligence and misconduct."
"I understand the victim's family seeing it in a way that they're perceiving it," said Defense Attorney Alan Zibelman, the lawyer for both of the workers in question. "I completely understand that.
