Senior Housing Alternative to Nursing Home Care National Church Residences, the nation's largest nonprofit provider of affordable housing for senior citizens, will now offer health care along with medical care and other services to elderly patients where they live, according to a recent article in The Columbus Dispatch. NCR serves more than 25,000 residents with more than 300 facilities in 28 states and Puerto Rico. Along with continuing-care retirement campuses, assisted-living centers, nursing homes, home health care and hospice, NCR also has on-site primary-care services at a number of residences and offers health care at adult day-care centers. Such facilities often prevent the need for expensive nursing home care. "The objective is to keep people in their homes, whether that's one of our housing units or in their own home," said Jeff Wolf, senior vice president of philanthropy and communications for NCR. "If we keep them healthy at home, in the long run it improves their quality of life and it helps contain health-care costs." NCR offers these services to encourage senior citizens to take care of themselves and maintain their independence while also decreasing the cost of health care. Health care is currently offered through the nonprofit itself within the state of Ohio.
