The Kentucky State Police is aiming to keep the state's roadways safer by cracking down on one of the leading causes of semi-truck and commercial vehicle accidents: brake failure.
The KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division conducted 95 inspections and issued 130 citations in a 24-hour nationwide inspection campaign earlier this month.
"About 50 percent of the ones we found are brake related, usually with brake pads wearing too thin," said SP officer Harold Mosley. "With commercial vehicles, they have to adjust their brakes, if they don't adjust them they can be rendered completely inoperative and not work at all."
Commercial vehicles are involved in 90 plus fatalities - approximately 9% of all traffic fatalities - in Kentucky each year. Read the full details here:
