More Patients Seek Non-Surgical Options for Common Ailments

With the steady rise of both surgical errors and prescription drug addictions nationwide, more and more patients are seeking non-mainstream medical options for health problems such as chronic low back pain, according to The Courier-Journal.

The National center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine suggests many options to treat low back pain, the most popular of which include acupuncture, massage, yoga and spinal manipulation.

People who suffer from chronic low back pain sometimes look beyond mainstream medicine because even “very invasive surgeries do not necessarily confer a cure for this,” and narcotics can lead to devastating problems, such as addition, according to Dr. Deborah Ballard of KentuckyOne Health.

“When people rely on things like drugs, surgery and injections, once that’s over, what do you do? You have to go home and live your life every day,” said Ballard. “So if you can learn how to incorporate things in your daily life that help you deal with pain, then you can live a lot better life with less suffering.” Read the full article here:
