Four out of five heart attacks in men can be prevented with healthy lifestyle changes, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
The study’s researchers estimate that fewer than 2 percent of Americans follow lifestyles considered ideal for cardiovascular health. This includes maintaining a healthy weight and diet, adopting a regular exercise program, avoiding cigarettes, and keeping alcohol consumption to a minimum.
Approximately 720,000 Americans suffer heart attacks each year, most of which can be avoided by adopting these principles on a daily basis.
According to Dr. Sam Brar, a cardiologist at Kaiser Permanente, “We know that in patients who have already developed blockages in the artery and have had to have open heart surgery of stenting procedures to fix those blockages, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can significantly increase their life expectancy.” Read the full details here:
