Crandall & Pera Law is proud to announce that our very own Steve Crandall has been selected for inclusion in the 23rd edition of the Best Lawyers in America publication! This is Steve’s 3rd consecutive year being selected for his work in the areas of medical malpractice and personal injury. Being named to Best Lawyers is a true honor, because it is the “oldest and most highly-respected peer review guide to the legal profession worldwide,” and one of the few that rely solely on the opinions of not just our colleagues, but on the attorneys who face our team across the aisle every time we are in court.
This year there were more than 7.3 million nominees, which means that ultimately, fewer than 1% of all attorneys nominated for inclusion were actually selected. Here in Ohio, only a handful of attorneys were selected in the area of plaintiffs’ medical malpractice, proving once again what an extraordinary attorney Steve really is.
How the Best Lawyers process works
An attorney can be nominated for Best Lawyers by any third party – colleagues, clients, judges, etc. – and his or her work will be reviewed and evaluated by attorneys who hold the distinction of being on the list. Votes and scores are tallied, and only lawyers with the highest evaluations move on. Once they have been approved, Best Lawyers ensures that the nominee is in good standing with any local bar associations he or she may belong to. If the nominee is approved, then the group sends out notification to the firm.
The thing about Best Lawyers that is different from other objective ratings services is that inclusion one year does not guarantee inclusion the next. So while anyone nominated in 2017 will automatically be nominated in 2018, that attorney still has to prove him or herself worthy for the next publication. On top of that, an attorney cannot buy a place on the list: the only way to be selected is to earn it.
This is why we are excited for, but not at all surprised by, Steve Crandall’s selection. His dedication to the pursuit of justice for his clients is virtually unparalleled. We could not be prouder.
