Experienced, Trained Kentucky Staff To Help You

Jordon is a Kentucky native who is proud to help his neighbors through difficult times. Jordon’s family has deep roots in eastern Kentucky, having first settled in this region in 1790. Jordon follows a long line of attorneys who have served the eastern Kentucky community, including his great-great grandfather, who began as an attorney in 1870 in Hindman. Jordon’s grandfather was also a well-known and well-liked medical negligence and personal injury attorney in Pikeville; he was someone Jordon looked up to and learned a great deal from.

Jordon Hall is from Raven, and his wife from Kite, both in Knott County. After graduating from Knott County Central High School and Morehead State University, Jordon received his law degree from University of Kentucky Law School. During law school, Jordon was very involved in several organizations, including the Appalachian Law Caucus, which saw him provide free legal services to disadvantaged Kentuckians who had been damaged by unethical and inappropriate legal services.

At Crandall & Pera Law, Jordon represents Kentucky residents with serious personal injury and medical malpractice claims.

What Causes Birth Injuries?

There are many causes of injuries that occur to both mom and baby during pregnancy and the birth process. In the pre-natal care period obstetricians and nurse mid-wives must be careful to evaluate whether mom has gestational diabetes, which is a condition that pregnancy itself can cause. This condition, as well as failing to diagnose a condition called pre-eclampsia, can cause injuries to mom and baby before delivery even begins.

Your care providers also have to be carefully monitoring the estimated weight of your baby to ensure you can safely deliver vaginally. Ultrasounds, fundal height measurements and a careful review of your prior delivery history are critical to forecasting whether you can safely deliver your baby. Allowing mom to delivery a baby that is too large to fit through the birth canal can lead to shoulder dystocia, a situation where your baby is stuck and not able to be delivered. If this situation is not either prevented entirely by performing a cesarean section before this develops, or if the care providers do not quickly disengage the baby safely, brain damage and brachial plexus can occur. Brachial plexus occurs when a baby is stuck in the birth canal and, when a care provider attempts to pull your baby out, stretching of the nerves in your baby’s neck and shoulder occur. This unfortunately leaves your baby’s arm deformed and not able to be used for their entire lifetime.

Fetal brain damage can unfortunately also occur if your care providers are negligent during your labor process and fail to deliver your baby in a timely manner. When you are in labor you will undoubtedly be connected to “electronic fetal monitoring,” which provides a continuous tracing of both your contraction pattern and your baby’s heart rate. This information is critical to evaluating, minute by minute, if your baby is doing well and can cope with the continued labor efforts.

However, very often care providers do not pay attention to warning signs on your electronic fetal monitoring, or they fail to respond appropriately or quickly to these warning signs. In those situations your baby can be deprived of oxygen during labor and delivery and this can lead to devastating and permanent brain damage. Medically this is often called hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, or sometimes referred to fetal asphyxia. This situation can cause cerebral palsy, which leads to spastic quadriplegia, the inability for your baby to breath or eat normally and usually requires that someone care for your baby for the remainder of their lives.

These situations can be prevented, which is why it is critical that you contact Crandall & Pera Law, LLC to discuss your pre-natal care and labor and delivery with them. Steve and Marc are experienced in birth injury cases and along with their staff, such as Rhyann Anderson, they are adept at explaining what went wrong in your case and, most importantly, bringing a case forward to compensate you and enable you to take care of your baby medically for the remainder of their lives.
