Technology is rapidly changing the medical industry as doctors are beginning to make remote visits to patients in ICUs and other facilities via robots run by PCs or iPads, according to a recent article in USA Today.
These technological overhauls are being used to address shortages of staff and improvements to the level of service for patients, especially for hospitals farther away from experts.
The latest robots, dubbed RP-VITA, can either roam about on their own or be navigated remotely by doctors, guided by sensors and software that maps locations to avoid collisions. Doctors appear on the robot's screen much like a video chat and use front-facing lenses to zero in on their patients.
The FDA cleared the RP-VITA in January for use in patient monitoring, including cardiovascular, neurological, prenatal, psychological and critical care assessments and examinations. Read the full story here:
